Giant cupcake

Not paper crafting but definitely homemade. Have been looking at the giant cupcake tin for ages and have been watching loads of you tube videos to find out how to pipe buttercream roses and here is my first attempt. My first bake didn't work out, the tin is big and the cake didn't cook properly but I found another recupe on the net and it turned out fine. I used Wilton piping nozzle 1M and the roses were much easier than expected. Haven't done much paper crafting recently - have lost my mojo but the Kaisercraft advent calender is coming on a treat.

Happy birthday Theo

Life has been so hectic I have done some crafting but just couldn't find the time to post anything. The Summer holidays flew by and we had a fabulous fortnight in Cornwall. Since then Amber has started High School and I've started in my new job as Year 12 Learning Co-ordinator at the University Academy. I have lost my card making mojo but did manage to get myself sorted to make this for my nephews 1st birthday. My creation needed something to finish it off but every embellishment I tried didn't seem to work so I left it as posted. I have started a Kaisercraft advent calender though, hopefully I will post my progress shortly. I have the wood painted and assembled and am going to start assembling and decorating the drawers. Hope you are all well and anjoying your crafting in Blog land.
Love Lynda

A new post at last

Well I'm not sure where the time is going, I'm half way through my Summer holidays already. I've done some crafting since my last post - but didn't manage to get my projects photographed before they were dispatched. Lots of birthdays and Anniversarys coming - so hopefully a few more posts before I head off to Cornwall for two weeks in a tent. Lets hope that the sun shines.

Two cards, I seem to be going through a brown phase, it's just because I'm loving my new Distress inks and foam pads. The anniversary card is for my brother and sister-in-law for their 21st wedding anniversary, I never forget it because it is the day after my own. We have been married 15 years tomorrow, will post hubbies card later. The image is from LOTV, I've had it for ages but I don't think I've used it before - it is beautiful though. The 80th birthday card is for my Aunt who will be celebrating this landmark birthday while we are away. I haven't quite got the layout right and I spent ages moving things around before I got the glue out. Not sure about the Tilda either - hey ho - that's just how it goes sometimes. The flowers I made with my new Tim Holtz dies, I think that is why it didn't quite work out as I hoped, trying to play with all my new stuff at once! The stamps I used are from Kanban, the Tilda is coloured with distress inks and Stampin up watercolours.

Thanks for stopping by.

A job lot from ebay and an 18th

I bought a job lot of wooden items from ebay, it was an absolute bargain, I've got a whole range of boxes, plaques etc they all plain light coloured wood ready for altering. This is my first attempt at decorating one and I'm pretty pleased with the result. I did this for an 18th birthday gift and did a card to coordinate with it. The birthday girl is trying to save for a car so I did the box to put money in. Her birthday party had a Grease theme and I was presented with some beautiful flowers and a butterfly for my garden for doing the invites (see an earlier post if you missed them). The party was brilliant fun, I was dressed for the occasion with my net petticoats and a Pink Ladies jacket. I checked out a couple of Youtube tutorials on 50s make-up, I went for very strong eyes complete with arched pencilled brows and false lashes and red lips. My husband said "That makeups quite scary but I think you've achieved the look you were after".

Box recipe:

Adirondack Lights Acrylic Paint - Salmon

Memento ink - Rich Cocoa

Images - Kanban acrylic stamps

Sentiments - Tim Holtz

Flowers - Crafts for Occasions

Butterfly - sizzix die and stampin up stamp

Card recipe

Magnolia - Princess Tilda coloured with promarkers

Martha Stewart - Punch around the page punches
LOTV - Sentiment

1st class honours degree

Sorry about the quality of the photo - I always get round to photographing my projects in the evening and its so difficult to get it right, when I used a flash it just washed out the detail. It can't wait until tomorrow as I want to get this in the post. My niece has just been awarded a first in her Forensic Science degree. She is absolutely thrilled and we are all so proud of her. She went to university shortly after her father died and she has shown such determination to succeed through a very difficult time in her life. I know my brother would be soooo proud of his little girl. She has now decided to follow in my footsteps and become a Chemistry teacher and embarks on her PGCE in September. I cut the sentiment, mortar board and scroll using the Wild card Cricut cartridge. The backing paper is punched with a Martha Stewart punch around the page punches and the flower is from the Magnolia range.

One Year Anniversary - Blog Candy

I can't believe a whole year has passed since I started blogging. I love hopping around everyone's blogs and reading the lovely comments people leave. My cardmaking has changed so much since I started this. I've been crafting for years but had lost my mojo - this has given the inspiration I needed. A year on I now have my own craft room and have bought some brilliant crafty treats to fill it ( not that it wasn't pretty full already). I must say thank you to the very talented Fleur who suggested this in the first place. I didn't know that the world of craft blogs existed.

Gigs and parties galore

What a glorious morning, the sky is blue, the sun is shining, it just makes you feel good doesn't it. It's been a really busy week with two more really busy ones ahead so a relaxing weekend is just the ticket. Looks like I bought my new garden furniture at just the right time. Amber has had her first two taster days at the high school, Tuesday was a bit traumatic but Friday went well so I think she is looking forward to September. The next couple of weeks will see me packing her off on her first overnight school trip, goodness she is soooo excited I'm just wondering if out bank balance will ever recover!! lol. We've got parties to go to, the prom, school oscar night (with an X-factor finalist as the entertainment, I don't know which one)and I've got a craft class booked, a whole Saturday with like minded people and loads of other things in the calender. By the time the holidays come I will be well and truly exhausted and the first Saturday we are having a trip up to Newcastle to see Iron Maiden, followed by swift packing because I'm taking the children, my parents and my brother and his son for a week away. I'm sure Paul will enjoy the peace and quiet amidst his gig schedule. He's going to the Iron Maiden tour four times!!!!!!! He's also going this Friday to see the big four at Sonisphere - just a little bit jealous because I love Metallica.

Any way I came to talk about the card - it's for one of my best and oldest friends, we were at school together and lost touch for a short while but thanks to the wonders of facebook we are back together. She is not looking forward to the big one so I've been subtle with the 40s. The image is LOTV, I thought I'd picked shades similar to the backing paper but I went too green. I'm sure the pens I picked had more blue tones on the promarker colour sheet I made. They also look much greener on the photo then on real life. I have stamped the background with Kanban stamps. I made the flower by using the Stampin up butterfly punch and turned the wings into petals which I ran through an embossing plate.

Don't forget to check out my Blog Candy it finishes on Tuesday.

Hope your having a lovely weekend.

Lemon and Lime

Busy, busy ,busy - when i first started teaching, this time of year was a dream - but now the workload just seems to build and build as you accelerate towards the Summer. Unfortunately this leaves limited crafting time - I've got loads of Good Luck cards to make for staff and students who are leaving so quick makes are going to be the order of the day. It's a shame that i'm not on strike tomorrow I could have spent the day crafting. Amber had her first day at the High School yesterday - why did I feel more stressed and worried than the day she started primary school?

I was rummaging in the drawer and came across another aperture card that I had passed over for several years - the colour brought to mind the Allsorts challenge and i thought i would give the colour combo a go. Not sure I've pulled it off - and it would help if I photographed my cards in the daylight - instead of waiting til 11 o clock at night. However, i'm going to submit it anyway. The background stamp and the butterflies are from Kanban, the punch is from Martha Stewart. This punch is so easy to line up and it works perfectly every time, I would thoroughly recommend it. I used a pigment ink this time and the glitter I added stuck to it creating a lovely sparkle but I don't think it really shows in the photo.

Using up old stuff.

Hello everyone. hope you all had lovely weekends. We had a lovely weekend and spent some nice family time in honour of Father's Day. Which reminds me, I was delighted to find out that one of my Father's Day cards was picked in the top 5 in the Allsorts challenge. Sooo pleased. So today I fancied a little me time in my Craft room and when i was having a rummage I came across some aperture cards that have been in the drawer for about 10 years. Someone who had given up crafting passed them on to me, I've tried to use them before but have never been satisfied with the results. This time a tried an entirely different approach and I'm pleased with the result. The stamps are both from Kanban - part of a set of 10 sheets a bought a couple of weeks ago from QVC. I stamped them with Memento inks and then layered up the leaves and flowers. Entering this for Anything Goes Challenge - Here comes Summer

Poppies

A new card designed with the Stampalot Challenge in mind, I've had this Kanban stamp for ages but this is the first time I have inked it up. I originally planned to put a sentiment at the top but when I got this far nothing seemed to work and embellishments just seemed to ruin the elegance of the design. Now I wish I had centred the main image - but I'll know next time. I stamped the image four times on the background and then covered it with a piece of cellophane so I could line up and stamp the frame, it worked really well and was very easy.

60th birthday card

A 60th birthday card for a male colleague at work - it wasn't til I photographed it that I realised that my lighthouse had a touch of the leaning tower of pisa about it!!! It's been really busy couple of weeks - was away visiting friends and family for most of half term - and of course I went to see TAKE THAT. They were excellent, especially Robbie :). Now its full steam ahead to the Summer holidays and a date with Iron Maiden. I love the Summer term but it is sad to say goodbye to students as they move on to the next phase of their education. Lots of different activites to do, the prom to prepare for and a trip to Alton Towers. In September I will be starting a new role as Year 12 coordinator so lots of new challenges ahead - I just hope I'll still have time to craft!!.

Birthday invitations

It's that Kanban dress again - did I tell you that I love it? My friend asked me to make some invitations for her daughters 18th birthday - shes having a 50s/Grease theme. So the most appropriate stamp I have is the THE DRESS, luckily I'd just purchased these ticket stamps from LOTV. Terri loves pink so I couldn't make her party invites in any other colour. I kept it simple because I had 40 to make but I'm pleased with the design and more importantly so is she. I passed the dresses through a flower Sizzix embossing folder just to give them a little extra presence. The circular sentiment is also from a new release by LOTV - luckily their circular stamps fit my 1 1/4 inch Stampin up punch almost perfectly. Unfortunately I picked one out of the box that I hadn't quite stamped straight but C'est la vie. Just got to sort myself out a 50s costume in time for the party - I've got my net petticoats at the ready.

Another special 40th birthday

Natalie one of my best friends is 40 this weekend - we were university housemates and have remained close. We don't get the opportunity to get together as often as we should but it is difficult as we both work full-time and have young families. I have put a couple of 40s on the card but I have been deliberately subtle as I don't think she is that keen on reaching this milestone. I seem to have used this LOTV image a lot recently but it just seems perfect for so many occasions. The sentiments are also LOTV - the top one is from a new set I treated myself to last week along with some of their new adorable boy images. The image was coloured with Promarkers. A request from a friend

A friend asked me to make a 60th birthday card for her Mum, apparently she likes purple and flowers so this is the design I came up with. The letters and numbers were cut using a little die set a picked up really cheaply from The Range last year, it has proved to be very useful. I run the card throught the Xyron before i cut it using the Bigshot, this is really helpful as the small letters are then adhesive. I ran them through an embossing plate after cutting to add texture. The image is from a clear stamp set by Kanban I've had it ages but this is the first time I've inked it up. The silk flowers i picked up for a very reasonble price at Boyes in Holbeach, they have lots of crafting goodies and very good prices - well worth a visit. I had the chance to pop in there yesterday as the pupils were all sent home as there was no water at school - you've never seen so many smiley teachers on a Friday. I coloured the image with Promarkers.

A new arrival for Easter

I made this baby card for a neighbour, I had to resist the urge to use the LOTV baby image and decided to try the Wild Card Cricut cartridge. The shapes and words were cut using this. I quite like the end result but I do love the LOTV baby. Back at work now - but sooooo excited about the Royal Wedding that I've hung my bunting and made some mini bunting for inside. Amber is mortified that I have hung bunting at the front with the image of the happy couple printed on it. Planning a cream tea to celebrate on Friday and perhaps a bottle of fizzy, lots of baking to do, hope the weather picks up again.

Amber's confirmation

Well here it is - after a lot of deliberating and a little trip to Sir Stampalot I have finally made Amber's confirmation card. At last I have a new Tilda - suggested by the lady in the shop - there are so many to choose from but this works perfectly here and is a versatile image. She is decoupaged in shades of cream and is coloured with promarkers. The religious images are from another stamp set I picked up while I was there by Woodware - they are acrylic stamps from the Christian Celebrations set. I cut the backing paper with Martha Stewart punch around the corner punches (and I almost got the measurements right). The shape under Tilda is from Spellbinders beaded ovals and was embossed with a sizzix embossing folder. The pearls just give it that finishing touch. I think she will love it. It's going to be a special day, with grandparents and a godparent attending. She has a beautiful new Monsoon outfit, the dress has some colour coming up from the hem and Amber says it looks like she has sat down in a wet meadow!! We went to the rehearsal yesterday so we are all set for our service with the Bishop of Grantham on Sunday, or at least we will be when I've found her a suitable present and prepared a suitable feast for the occasion! Busy days ahead. Yes another birthday the third this week

You will probably recognise this image as it is one of my favourites along with the Coco Chanel quote. This is such an elegant stamp - and although it is very 1950s if you walk along the high street every fashion collection has one of these dresses for Spring/Summer. This is for a special 60th birthday for a lady in our family. This is the third birthday this week and there's another at the start of next week. Still got to make that card and one for Amber's confirmation (which I'm struggling with, may need a trip to the craft shop). The stamps are Kanban, have embossed using the bigshot, border is a martha stewart punch, sentiment is cut with nesties. I really like working with these browns and creams, it has the elegant look I was striving for. Entering this for the April Stampalot Challenge Ladies and Fashion. When I saw this title I knew it was a good excuse to get this gorgeous stamp out again. Also entering for the Anything Goes Challenge - Pearls More soon Lynda xxx

Happy birthday Matthew

Matthew is 7 tomorrow he's having a sleepover tonight - small boys are exhausting!!! Within half an hour of his friends arriving he'd had a tooth knocked out whilst playing on the trampoline. Never mind, he recovered quickly, and it was only a baby tooth. I wonder if the tooth fairy will manage a visit with the room full of inflatable beds. He is football mad so this had to be the basis for his card. The footballer and cup are Kanban stamps, I put the cups onto shrink plastic - boy were those little ribbons tricky with my acrylic nails. The papers are from Patchwork Pals. Entering this for two challenges Bunny Zoes Crafts - One for the boys and Simon Says Stamp One For the Boys.

Easter hols are here :)

Another clutch of birthdays this week - good job i've broken up for Easter. Should be Spring cleaning but thought i'd start the week with a bit of craft. Its going to be a busy week, Matthew's birthday is on Thursday and Amber is being confirmed on Sunday. Their cards to follow no doubt. This card is for my future sister in law, the wedding is next May and I'm already thinking of a few crafty creations. Designed this for the Allsorts Challenge - Anything but square. The papers are Stampin Up, the large cupcake is from Cricut Wild Card, the chef is a squiggle stamp and the recipe is from LOTV. The Happy Birthday was printed using my new toy - the Xyron design runner - had this on my wish list for ages and finally treat myself. I think it will be brilliant for scrap booking - if I ever get round to doing any. Also entering for Paper Take Weekly Challenge - Anything Goes.

Leaving Card

What a lovely day today. The house has been full of children playing between trips to the park. I've been crafting and listening to Lover Never Dies - I love musicals and Andrew Lloyd Webber is a particular favourite. The card is for a colleague who is leaving at the end of term. Used my Cricut (have I mentioned that I love it?) to cut the trellis. The butterflies and stamps on the front are Stampin Up, the butterfly punch is too. Used a Martha Stewart for the border and the sentiment in the middle is from LOTV. Just been looking at the new Stampin Up mini catalogue -lots of lovely goodies to put on my ever growing wish list. My craft room is bursting at the seams but there is always something new to tempt me.

Mother's day

The same basic design as in my previous post but in a different colour - I wasn't going to post it but it looks quite different in these colours. I made this one for my mother-in-law, I thought it might be a bit quicker as I was using my previous design but it seemed to take even longer. I kept losing bits under the mess on my desk and it was tidy when I started. Have just hoovered up the paper trail that was creeping out of my craft room across the landing and down the stairs! For My Mum

All Mums are special and mine is no exception. I don't see her as often as I'd like but she is always there when I need her and when she needs me I do whatever I can to help. I love making cards for the special people in my life - but sometomes I feel they lack the verse that conveys how much they mean to you and how special they are.

The card shape was cut using the Wild Card Cricut cartridge, I have embossed the frame and used Promarkers to colour the LOTV image. I love their images - and I like to think this is perfect as me and my Mum spend a lot of time discussing things over a cup of coffee, especially when we get to sneak off to Meadowhall for a spot of mother daughter retail therapy. The stamp on the envelope is from Stampin Up - I feel there has been a distinct lack of of butterflies in my creations recently.

Another birthday

Yes its the third birthday in my family this week - this time its my brother-in-law so another mans card! I used this LOTV image (I haven't got many suitable for men) and one of my new Stampin Up Papers. I really like these old print papers. The pocket watch was a free stamp and I have used it on shrink plastic to make the little embellishments that match the stamp on the envelope. The little photo corners have been sat in a pot for a couple of years - don't know why I've never used them before, they add a nice finishing touch. The image was coloured with promarkers. Happy Birthday Dad

A much simpler design this time - the image is from Patchwork Pals and is coloured with Promarkers. The letters were cut with the Jasmine Cricut cartridge. Not sure if I should add some embellishments, mens cards are so tricky!! (Note to self - must by some more male images) It had to be a Goalie - my parents met when my mum was the sister on casualty and dad was injured during a cup final. She had him stitched, and out of casualty, in time to be back on the pitch, before the end of the match - he still found time to ask her out on a date though! A fortnight ago Matthew had a match near Lincoln so Mum and Dad met use there - at the age of 74 he couldn't resist having a go in goal and he made a save.

New stamps

A birthday card for my sister-in-law, we have a run of birthdays and anniversarys in our family at the end of March. Quite appropriate as my maiden name was Hare - and there are a few Mad March Hares amongst them!! The images and sentiments on this card are from LOTV and I have designed this using their challenge sketch. The large flower shapes and branches were cut with the Cricut - I'm starting to get to grips with it now. The main image was coloured using promarkers. I'm really pleased with the end result, but as usual when I sat back and did the mantlepiece test, it was clear that a few items weren't quite straight. C'est la vie!

A birthday gift and alternative to a card.

I have a friend with a birthday this week, who is partial to a drop of Jagermeister, so her present is a bottle of this, with an oversized tag decorated in the Jagermeister colours instead of a card. I used the squiggle stamp Miss Evie Wonderland and the'Drink Me' phrase from Alice in Wonderland of course. The label was cut with my new Cricut expression as were the words. I added over sized decorative eyelets and flowers which have been layered with images stamped onto shrink plastic. I really like the way the colours work together. Hope she likes it.

No marking done - but a challenge entry complete!

Half term - done some housework, not managed to get my school work out the boot yet - eek Friday tomorrow. But I have done some crafting :). Amber has decided that she wants to be a florist when she's older so we went to Spalding Bulb Auction for some silk flowers so she could practice. It's a florists wholesalers amongst other things and a real treasure trove. I picked up a few bits for myself while we there including the flowers on my latest creation. Have designed this with the sketch from Cute Card Thursday in mind but I have strayed from the path a little. The decorative accent at the side is cut from a sizzix die, it is my favourite and the shape is from a nestie. The image is made from two Kanban clear stamps the birds and the cage are separate, I even managed to get the birds on the perch!! The bottom border was cut with a Martha Stewart punch. I'm quite pleased with how this turned out, now I need to work out how to produce a box/envelope but that can wait til another day.

An old stamp

This is a stamp I've had for at least ten years - but I find the image really hard to colour successfully. I've inked it up many times but have discarded the result. The image is very detailed and it doesn't seem to work at all without colour. This time I've watercoloured it using Stampin Up Watercololur Crayons the result is ok - but the colours in the photo make it appear bolder that it really is. I'll have to try it with Promarkers next time. The frame was cut from an old aperture card thats been in my draw for years. Someone gave me a big pile of them but I find them hard to use successfully. So as I hadn't got a correctly sized or shaped die this was a good solution. The discarded part of the card Iused to stamp the butterfly and to punch the tag and top flower. I thought I'd dig out this stamp as it is perfect for the Allsorts Challenge - Inspired by Nature. (You can tell its half term as I've actually got time to craft on a Sunday instead of running trying to prepare for the week ahead).

Love this LOTV image, have had it for I while and haven't used it. I'm hoping this will cheer up my elderly aunt who is very poorly in hospital at the moment. I have stamped the image with memento ink and coloured it with Stampin up Water colour crayons. I've used my new Martha Stewart border punch for the trim and punches to create the flowers and my favourite butterflies. I've been very restrained on the butterfly front recently but I treated myself to some new butterflies at Fleurs craft party yesterday so they will be appearing here shortly. I got the opportunity to see some of her designs in the flesh, they are even more beautiful in real life than they appear in her blog.

My Valentine

I have made a valentine notebook for Paul instead of a card. It's a little lined notepad - perfect for writing shopping lists in. He usually does the Morrisons shop - but likes to have a list prepared - I'm sure he'll enjoy using this as I've been through the book and stamped some messages on random pages. It was fun to make use of the little message stamps that I have accumulated. I'm sure he'll enjoy having mesages like 'Some bunny loves you' and 'I'm nuts about you' on his weekly shopping lists!!!!!!!!!!! At least I got to use the stamps, and it made me laugh while I was doing it. :)

Wonderland

This is one of my new stamps - Miss Evie Wonderland - from Squiggle Stamps. My 21 year old neice is crazy about Alice in Wonderland. I spent 2 weeks in Disneyland in 2008 searching for all things Alice and I only found two items!!!!!!!!! Of course since then the world has gone Alice mad and she is everywhere. Made this notebook for her, I'm sure it will come in useful as she is in her final year at Uni. Luckily craft stamper have supplied me with a pocket watch and teacup on recent magazines so my theme was complete. The flower was also made from a recent free stamp from the magazine. Entering the notebook for Paper Sundaes Challenge - Two or more images and I Love Promarkers Anything Goes Challenge Evie is coloured with promarkers, and the paper I used had a subtle sparkle and it has given a lovely effect not easy to pick up on the photo.
